'Everyone said they would come again'

'Fantastic - really well-organised course and really good tutor'

'The course was brilliant from beginning to end - can't think how it might be improved'

Thank you Janet – what a wonderful way to spend a wet Saturday, learning, weaving, laughing!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed it and will certainly be thinking of coming to course no 2 soon.

Hope you manage a wee glass of something tonight, you deserve it. FF

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the workshop in Dumfries on Saturday. I’ve been very hesitant at mixing colours so far, playing very safely. What I learned from your workshop is to experiment with bizarre mixes. I have spun all the bits and bobs I brought home, some of them to “match,” some to clash, and some completely randomly, and I haven’t made a colour I dislike. In fact, the ones I like the least are the safe ones (magenta, lilac, turquoise, for example), and my very favourite is green, yellow, red, purple and white, especially chosen to look awful! Even the one I spun from the batt from the drum carder, which we all added a random bit to, is interesting and very wearable.

If you’re interested, I have knitted them all into a sampler, and put them on a project page…Blending Workshop in my handspun.

I’m really excited, and now in the market for a drum carder!

Thanks again. JS

What a great morning I had yesterday. I was a little dubious about doing a workshop on weaving as I knew basic weaving, but was delighted of learning to 'liberate' my weaving.

It was such fun, thank you. RW

I went with the understanding that I would be a demon spinner after the course - I have to say demons are no problem now and I loved every minute of it, learned a vast amount and I'm now in full production and have invested in a second wheel so that my very pretty little traveller doesn't get bashed about in the car. DM

I just wanted to say thank you for such a wonderful and enlightening workshop. I sat on the train coming home with everything you’d taught us swimming around in my head as I sat spindling to pass the time. Suddenly everything seemed to click into place and I couldn’t wait to get home to my wheel.

After a quick meal I sat at my wheel and a handful of Shetland roving I’d just pulled from my combs and began to spin. It felt like the single was spinning itself and I’ve managed to spin something between gossamer and laceweight that is so even and perfectly balanced as a 2 ply I’m just in awe that I managed to do it.

I plan to spend a few days going over everything you showed us, then I’ll be working with more of my Shetland fleece and hopefully will be able to spin something that would merit being knitted up as a Shetland lace shawl.

Thank you so much. EK

I just wanted to drop you a line to say thanks for teaching me to spin last weekend. i didn't stop grinning all day! i was so proud of my first skein (of yarn) I am taking it along to my Stitch and Bitch group tonight.

all the feedback I have had from previous students has been excellent about you. Other people sing your praises too.

.....you brought a great deal of material and a huge variety of equipment. You made the art of spinning look so graceful as well as simple. I understand that you introduced a variety of methods which seemed to be very popular with the members...... you exercised a great deal of patience, giving each member personal time. That gesture was obviously much appreciated.

Just completed two days of Janet's spinning workshops. It was a lovely group, small and relaxed. I went in knowing nothing whatsoever and came home with two satisfying skeins of wool and enough confidence to start looking for a spinning wheel of my own. I'd point out here that before doing this, although I wanted a wheel of my own the prospect of finding the right one when you know nothing at all was daunting. With Janet's calm and laid back style of teaching, and her offer of advice if needed, I feel much happier about getting one now. I also have to say that there was an excellent home-made lunch included and I can recommend the soup too. SE

Janet hosted a 'hen do' spinning course for us up at the farm. It was a very special day and she's a very knowledgable and accommodating teacher. All of us enjoyed the day, and came away feeling like we'd achieved something. I'd recommend it to anyone!!! Her book is fantastic too - we're very lucky to have her so close by :)

Thanks again Janet for our wonderful day x. RA

Janet is a wonderful very knowledgeable patient tutor. I've attended a couple of her courses in different locations, I've left each course feeling I've learned a new skill, inspired to take it further and happy to have made a few new friends into the bargain. I'd recommend Create with Fibre any day. Go try a course you'll love it. SB

Brilliant approach to learning a new craft, promoting independence and problem-solving from the get-go rather than further down the line. I feel confident I could sort out any practical problems by myself without causing too much damage! I'm amazed that Janet never once said "yeah, that's rubbish!" - when sometimes it clearly was!! Thank you, would definitely love to have a go at weaving now too! LG

Janet visited the Handspinner having fun here on the Isle of Skye on part of her knit 1 bike 1 adventure and taught a continental knitting class. Lots of fun and lots of information given - really enjoyable and hope to attend on of her workshops again some time in the future! Thank you Janet. LP

Had a fantastic time learning to spin over the weekend. Janet is a lovely kind and encouraging teacher who made everyone feel at ease and praised all our efforts. CE

Spinning is now my work, my hobby and my relaxation! SC

:: had today, the pleasure of spinning alpaca (Eva, it's lovely!)... jacob and hampshire fibre... plus merino and silk... there was plying a-plenty and a new niddy-noddy was gained... i have jacob fleece to wash for practise and i now have a handle on carding wool too... if you want to learn to spin keep you eye out for Scottish Fibres organising spinning workshops because you will learn loads... thank you once again Janet, it was excellent. HB

Spinning a fleece is a perfect way to spend a freezing cold weekend. Beside the art centre coal fire, we were spoilt with so much beautiful yarn and tea. Thanks Janet, and all the lovely people. who came from far and wide! JK

I meant to write before now but have been too busy spinning! I just wanted to thank you for such a good day at the spinning workshop. I had been trying to get going via YouTube & books but with limited success. Seeing spinning in 'real life' and your excellent tuition has made such a difference. I am only sorry that I left my spinning wheel in the loft for so long - I've wasted 27 years of potential spinning! Thanks again, NS

Venue and catering was excellent -very welcoming and accomodated all requests. Tuition was first class in a relaxed fashion. Everyone was able to improve skills and learn new ones. Can't wait until next one. FL

I would like to give many thanks for the weekend retreat at Dalleagles. I came away with confidence to carry on crocheting without you in the room and have started using the tricks and tips you shared. Your instruction in a friendly and very comfortable environment made for a wonderful retreat. Thank you. HC

Thank you so much for a lovely relaxing weekend, and introducing me to such wonderful ladies. I think the choosing your own thing and just doing that is a great idea, it removes all the stress and the trying to keep up with everyone else element. I felt I learned new things but also had a real rest. I also really appreciated your help and thoughtfulness with the food, it made such a difference, it sometimes feels like more trouble than it is worth going away, but I knew in this case it would be fine. I will email Mike and Liz to say a proper thank you. JC
