More about the Knit 1 Bike 1 project
Cycle round Scotland and leave the car at home! Make quirky artwork with fibre and yarn! Connect with others by giving free workshops in exchange for a bed for the night/hot meal! Have an exhibition! AND write a book about it all. Yeah, that's what she did!
Janet has crocheted a Brompton folding bicycle like the one she will use to get around Scotland, a strawberry sponge cake, a packet of smoked salmon, the Isle of Mull ferry, several worms, caterpillars, sheeps horns, spiders...and her biggest project is the Glenfinnan Viaduct. That's the one featured in the Harry Potter movies.
Janet's textile journey round Scotland took place from 29th June to 5th September, an epic cycle trip of 69 days. She did use public transport and even got a lift a couple of times but cycled over 800 miles in total. What's more she delivered 21 free mini workshops all over Scotland.
Janet has finished knitting and crocheting her artwork based on whatever she saw on her travels, such as the Glenfinnan Viaduct, cakes from the workshops she delivered, Samba drums, seals, the Isle of Mull Ferry and lots more. The first venue for her touring exhibition was at the Borders Textile Tower House in Hawick and ran till 22nd December 2016.
The exhibition will now tour and in 2017 it will be at the Carnegie Library Ayr, Community Centre Stair Ayrshire, Heartfelt by Liz Dalmally and Dumfries Museum. If you would like to host the exhibition between June and September 2017 or in 2018 contact Janet.
